Mandates

Next

The spending limits a person authorises once, inside which an agent can pay.

Coming next. The mandate model is being built in wave T1. Rail binding (UPI Reserve Pay, one-time mandates, e-mandates, card agent tokens) comes with the payment partners.

A mandate is a person's permission for one agent to spend, with limits:

  • maximum per payment and per period
  • allowed merchants or categories
  • expiry
  • the rail it is bound to

A mandate moves through draft, authorised, active, and ends as exhausted, expired or revoked.

The person authorises the mandate once, with two-factor authentication. After that, the agent can pay only inside the limits. Above a threshold (₹2,000 by default) the person is always asked.
